Website builders, plugin-heavy websites, and sites built once by a developer all have their place. Here's where they tend to cause problems, and what we do differently.

The common problems
Where the problems come from
Each of these can work well for a while. Problems usually start when the business needs more than the website can comfortably handle.
You're renting, not owning
On all-in-one website builders, your website only runs on their platform. If you want to leave, you usually start again, and some of your content doesn't come with you.
Every feature is another subscription
Booking, reviews, forms, extra store features: each add-on often has its own monthly fee on top of the plan, and plan prices can rise at renewal. Some store platforms also take an extra cut of every sale if you use a different payment provider.
Slow pages
Page builders and stacked add-ons load extra code on every page. In Google's 2025 data from real visitors, fewer than half of the websites on the most widely used website platform passed its speed checks on phones.
Security gaps in add-ons
Every plugin is software from a different company that needs regular updates. In 2025, security researchers recorded more than 11,000 new security flaws in add-ons and themes for the most widely used website platform, and almost half were still unfixed when they were made public.
Hard to leave a page builder
Page builders save your pages in their own format. Switching away usually means cleaning up leftover code or rebuilding pages by hand.
The work lands on you
Do-it-yourself tools give you the tools, not the time. Keeping pages, photos, and settings current falls on you or your staff.
One person holds the keys
When a single developer built the site, every change waits for them. Sometimes the domain or hosting is even registered in their name.
Unclear scope, surprise costs
Without a clear scope, small requests turn into new invoices, and it's hard to know what the website will cost next month.
Too many logins, no clear owner
Hosting, domain, email, plugins, and payment accounts end up spread across different people, and nobody has the full picture.
Our approach
What we do differently
You own what we build
The code and content are yours. We set up the accounts so you're never waiting on us to get access.
Built from tested sections, not a pile of plugins
Features are part of one set of sections that we design, test, and maintain together, so there's nothing from a dozen different companies to keep in sync.
Light pages that open quickly
Pages are prepared ahead of time and load only what they need, so they stay quick on phones.
Updates are tested before going live
Updates are tested on a copy before going live. Access to data is controlled on the server, based on who's signed in.
Host with us, or on your own hosting
We can host and look after the website for you, or set it up on your own hosting account. Your choice.
A team, not one person
Every website is built the same way, so anyone on our team can pick up the work. You'll know the scope and price before work begins.
Ownership
Your content, stored where you want it
Your text, images, product details, and pages aren't trapped inside a builder. They can live in the content editor you prefer, what developers call a headless CMS, on your own hosting, or with us.
The website isn't tied to one platform, so you can change hosting, switch content editors, or bring in another developer without starting over.

A free check
Check who owns your domain
It takes two minutes, and you don't need us for it. If the domain isn't in your name, that's worth fixing whatever you decide about your website.
Look it up
Go to lookup.icann.org and type in your website address.
Find the registrant
The registrant is the legal owner of the domain. If it shows a privacy service instead of a name, the owner is hidden.
Check your registrar account
Log in where the domain was bought. If you can't, or the account belongs to someone else, ask them to move it into your name.
Questions owners ask
No. Whether you need a few pages or a full online store, we scope the work to what your business needs and give you a fixed price before work begins.
We start with a free review of your current website. We'll tell you what can be brought over, such as text, photos, and product lists, and what will need to be rewritten or cleaned up.
It stays online until the new website is ready and approved. Then we switch your domain to the new one.
Plans are optional for websites. We can host and look after your website for you, or set it up on your own hosting. Online stores require the Growth plan.
